Becoming a Resident
Choosing to move from conventional housing into cohousing is an exciting—and sometimes big—decision. We encourage potential buyers to take time to learn about both cohousing in general and Bellingham Cohousing in particular, so you feel fully informed before joining our community.
One of the best ways to get to know us is simply to spend time together. We gather for coffee every morning from 10:00–11:00 am in our Common House, and you’re warmly invited to drop in, meet residents, and hear firsthand what life here is like. You’re also welcome to attend one of our monthly general meetings to get a broader sense of how our community works and makes decisions.

The Bellingham Cohousing neighborhood infrastructure and individual homes were designed by The Cohousing Company in collaboration with some of the original residents. We incorporated as many eco-friendly materials and design features as we could. These include marmoleum flooring, the Common House trim lumber, and radiant baseboard heating. Many of the construction materials, including glues, solvents, surface finishes, and structural and decorative materials, are low-toxic. We upgraded a number of design features and construction materials, including acoustic insulation between adjacent units, better grades of cabinetry, and Ethernet wiring for the community computer network and Internet access.
Bellingham Cohousing is a Washington condominium. Unit dues are determined as part of an annual community-wide budget process.
